On 16th May our string quartet had the pleasure of playing for Lucy and Andrew’s intimate wedding at Dodford Manor in Northamptonshire. They booked us last year to play for their ceremony and drinks reception so it was really exciting that it was their turn at last! Lucy and Andrew couple asked for the string quartet to play a special arrangement of Kissing You (Des’ree) for the Bridal entrance.
Normally our string quartet, string trio and string duo sit upstairs in the mezzanine level at this venue which gives us a great view of the ceremony. This wedding was intimate and so the string quartet sat downstairs at the back of the room – it was lovely as we felt that we were really part of the ceremony. There was lots of room for us and we had a great view of what was going on.
We were very lucky with the weather and were able to sit outside to play for the drinks reception, something we have been unable to do very often this year so far! The weather has not been quite warm enough for us to venture outside at many of this year’s weddings. Hopefully this will improve as we head towards July and August. We love to sit outside and play for our couples’ guests but we get cold quickly! Wedding guests can move around while they have their drinks which helps keep them warm. Musicians, on the other hand get cold quickly as they are static. We also cannot sit in direct sunlight – the varnish on our string instruments melts with the heat!
I nipped over to where the wedding breakfast was set up before we started to play. I loved the wedding cake – the detail was intricate with little cherubs.
At certain venues there is always one member of staff who is fabulous at their job and for whom nothing is ever too much trouble! At Dodford Manor this member of staff is Tracy! From the moment guests arrive until they leave, Tracy is right there working hard and making sure everything is ship shape and ALWAYS with a smile!! She always looks after our musicians well – something we are very grateful for! Thank you Tracy!!
Thanks to Lucy and Andrew for sharing their special day with us! We wish you all the best for your future life together! Team Ariella x
