Horwood House Spring Wedding

On 28th March Ariella string trio was booked to play for the wedding of Gemma and Wendy at Horwood House in Buckinghamshire.

After our usual quiet winter period this wedding was the first of the 2015 spring season, so it was lovely to kick off playing at Horwood House where we are the recommended string group.

We were greeted by Toastmaster, Stuart Holton who we have worked with many times. He was there to make sure the day ran smoothly.

Gemma and Wendy are a lovely couple who had been an absolute pleasure to work with in the run up to their big day. The Bridal party entrance music was the very romantic “She” from the movie “Nottinghill” – a lovely choice.

Most of the suppliers the couple had chosen were local to Horwood House and we have worked with them many times. We do love it when we work with suppliers we know and trust!

The florist was Woodland Flowers from Milton Keynes and the flowers were absolutely stunning:

Beautiful for a Horwood House Spring Wedding

Having played at 100s of wedding since 1999 we have heard many readings. However, today’s readings were really fab and believe it or not we had not heard them before.

They were so good I had to share – enjoy!

Love me when I’m old and shocking
Peel off my elastic stockings
Swing me from the chandeliers
Let’s be crazy bad old dears.

Push around my chromed Bath Chair
Let me tease your thick grey hair
Scaring children, swapping dentures
Let us have some great adventures

Take me to the Dogs and Bingo
Teach me how to speak the lingo
Bone my eels and bring me tea
Show me how it’s meant to be

Take me to your special places
Watching all the puzzled faces
You in shorts and socks and sandals
Me with warts and huge love-handles

As the need for love enthralls
Wrestle with my damp proof smalls
Make me laugh without constraint
Buy me chocolate body paint

Hold me safe throughout the night
When my hair has turned to white
Believe me when I say it’s true
I’ve waited all my life for you

The Magic Of Love by Helen Steiner Rice

Love is like magic
And it always will be,
For love still remains
Life’s sweet mystery!
Love works in ways
That are wondrous and strange
And there’s nothing in life
That love cannot change!
Love can transform
The most commonplace
Into beauty and splendour
And sweetness and grace!
Love is unselfish,
Understanding and kind,
For it sees with its heart
And not with its mind!
Love is the answer
That everyone seeks…
Love is the language
That every heart speaks…
Love can’t be bought
It is priceless and free,
Love, like pure magic,
Is a sweet mystery!

During the drinks reception Gemma and Wendy had chosen to make use of our “Jukebox Live” option. They had picked a playlist from which their friends and family were able to choose what they wanted to hear. We had a great time interacting with the guests while they chose their music – we got the children to give out the lists and collect the music choices, something they all love to do!! Lots of the guests were singing along so there was a great atmosphere while Kate was taking the photos.

Although the weather was bright, it was one of the days in March when we had extremely high winds, so most of the photos had to take place indoors. The photographer, Kate Towers, who we hadn’t worked with before, did a sterling job even though the weather was against her.

During our break I nipped to have a look at the wedding breakfast set up! Really lovely and my favourite colour too! The room was dressed by Quality Chair Covers & Venue Dressing also based locally in Milton Keynes.

Thought I would share:

Stuart, the Toastmaster was all set up for his Sabrage. He is a Sabreur member of the Confrerie du Sabre D’Or, and demonstrates the exciting Napoleonic art of Sabrage, This is the use of a sabre to open a bottle of champagne, a custom originally employed by French Hussars during the Napoleonic period. It is excellent fun for any celebratory occasion.

And lastly but by no means least comes the wedding cake by our favourite Northamptonshire Cake Designers “Hockleys Cakes”   Graham and Michael Hockley, brothers, run this outstanding business and are well known and loved for their passion for creativity and innovative ideas! Always top service and attention to detail!
